Crown Prince Hussein

King Abdulla II has named his eldest son, Prince Hussein, who is still attending the school to be the crown prince of the kingdom of Jordan. I have to say here that I do not find this step to be a good one.

Jordan is a country that is literally surrounded by problems from each single side, and yet, it may have a king who is still in school in case (and God forbids) King Abdulla passes away. I am not sure though if the law allows having a king under 18, apparently not, but even having a king who is 18 years old is not the right decision for such region (Middle East) if for any.

I really hope that King Hussein would reconsider his decision and keep this issue to be decided in correspondence to the future circumstances, because Jordan is important for all of us, or otherwise explain his decision because we all are his sons.

God And Civilization

I was reading an interesting essay about the never ending discussion about the existence of God, and I came across a very telling chart.

One thing took my attention; Europe seem to believe less in God than the Americans, even though it was the continent that exported religion to the two American continents. The reason in my opinion is that, the more civilized a community is (UK, Germany, France as the chart shows), the less it needs to look for a God, and maybe the less God himself cares about making this community know about him. On the other hand we see that a country like Mexico (which is less civilized than Europe) has a much higher ratio of believers. I also have to admit that I can not see the US as civilized as Europe.

I always thought of this idea and today I find this nice chart supporting it somehow, God did not send his messages to be worshipped, but to make communities better. Anyway I don’t mean that when we Arabs become civilized (that is after the oil ends and we get shocked and we start to be humans who have to learn and work to survive instead of buying something we didn’t manufacture (oil again) to survive), I don’t mean that when this happens we will not need to believe in God.

Clementine from Israel

Since last week, I am in Paris, for work and not for joy, and the weather proves my point. Still it is lovely to walk in the streets of Europe; it smells like life there, all the time. Even though it was raining heavily, I thought of going downtown. I have no problem with rain anyway. Walking with a friend, and looking around, we came across a grocery. Very clear to me was a paper written on it “Clementine from Israel”.

I came closer to the Grocery and looked; the name of this Clementine was Jaffa. Without hesitation I bought a Kilo and went home to eat it. It tastes just lovely, a million times better than the Spanish one that our supermarkets here are full with. It costs three times more, but it’s worth it.

My friend refused to eat from it. I don’t care where my money is going to, I just know better now that they are not fighting there (in Palestine) for religions, history or such nonsense; they are fighting there to control the production of the most delicious Clementine on earth……. And it’s worth the fight.

The Dreamers, the movie

The movie with the million naked/sex scenes, I finally had time to see this movie; "the dreamers". I am happy I didnt have the chance to see this movie before, maybe I wouldnt have understood it then, the movie of the real taboos.

This movie is based on a book called, the holy innocents. it seems to be about anything but innocense. But in fact it is.

The movie is about three students, one french woman, her twin brother and an american exchange student whom they accept "to be one of them", the strange thing about this twin couple is that they seem to be intimate to some extent, they never had sex, but they are extremely sexually exposed to each other, if this has a meaning at all. The french brother and sister are active members in the youth revolutionary society, they seemed to take the lead in the french student rebillions in 1968. They also loved classical movies, which made the american student who have the same interest in movies "one of them". Anyway, he didnt seem to share them interests in revolutions, he thought the government knows always better.

The movie is full of sex and nudity (especially after the american student starts loving the french woman), to an extreme level, which maybe was meant, in a very nice way. In One scene that says all the movie (from my point of view) the three are gathered in the bathtub, and started smoking, for some reason, the american student starts talking about Vietnam, the french guy gets angry, and tells him he shouldnt be happy about the fact that americans are in Vietnam, then he asks the american student "what is your army doing there? why do you go there? are you happy about killing the people there?" the american student answers that if anyone refuses to go there and fight, he will be locked in jail. The revolution-loving french student shouts and says, "I would better stay in jail than agree to go kill innocent people".

Isnt this just lovely? the man who in our eyes makes the uglyest sins with his sister prefers to be locked in jail than go into an army with aims he doesnt believe in.

This left me thinking, what are the real sins? what are the real taboos? doing an ugly thing that may only hurt me and that is described as a sin, or doing something that may seem honoring in which I hurt and kill innocent people.

Did religions fail in clearing this point?

Berlin's Wall "Freiheit"

This post is written in English, but with German grammer

Westernhagen's Masterpiece "Freiheit" (Meaning Freedom) is simply my favourite.
I had the privilege it once live to attend, and I can not forget how many around me had goose skin and some tears in their eyes. This happens still to me now when I to this song listen.

The Germans knew that they no wall for their sicurity need, and for that they distroyed this wall, left a little part of it, to remember, how great the meaning of freedom , inside them, is.

The middle east on the other hand is full of walls, some we see, and many we dont.

"who freedom gives up,
for sicurity to win,
deserves neither freedom nor sicurity."

"We need no walls, We need bridges."

This thread is not about freedom, its about my favourit song.

There is no need german to understand, in order to understand this song. There is need only human to be.

خيبر خيبر يا يهود

Laila Hermann is a friend of mine, a sweet woman who is learning arabic since almost 3 years now. We lived together once in a flat during my study time, and I realised how good friends we can be. Laila is Jew.
During the last Gaza War, many demonstrations invaded Germany, against Israel of course. Laila called me and asked me to join her there, she wanted to attend and shout against Israel, she went there even though I adviced her not to.
In the middle of the demonstration, Laila called me and asked me to hear what is being said....خيبر خيبر يا يهود ... and we know the rest. She was disappointed.
I think that anyone who will repeat such sentence in a demonstration is a person who is not old enough to go out in demonstrations, or a person who is just full of hatred, and doesnt know where to pour this hatred.
Its not only that, I know some facebook contacts who wrote such comments during the war. and other things about Hitler and crap. Is this the right way to fight? are we that ignorant? or stupid? or just full of hatred? Thank you Mom, thank you Dad, thank you religion teacher.

At the Zoo

I dont usually let my feelings affect my judjement.

1.
a male friend of mine is a student and wanted to find a new (cheaper) room to spend his last semester in, he found a flat in which a woman is living, her husband was in jail and she needed some money, so she offered one of the flat's rooms for rent. my friend took the offer, "all of it" he saidin a silly way.
After two weeks the husband rings the door, hes out of jail, my friend opens the door, my friend gets beated everywhere because the man thought his woman is betraying him with my friend. My friend goes to hospital, the man back to jail, his woman becomes a prostitute (betraying her man ?) for money.
"Because I dont know all the facts, I think that all of them deserve it."

2.
Sometimes, and more frequently throughout this israeli war on Gaza, I do not know who is worse; The arabs (خير أمة أخرجت للناس) or the Israelis (شعب الله المختار ), this situation brings me to one conclusion; "Because I dont know all the facts, I think that all of them deserve it."
